Food allergies, intolerances, or celiac disease

Bruff Commons is committed to offering safe and delicious food for students with special dietary needs. The dining services team is trained and knowledgeable about preparing foods for those with allergies, intolerances, and celiac disease. We work closely with Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) and AllerTrain to provide the best possible experience to students with food allergies, intolerances, and celiac disease.

Simple Servings

Tulane University is proud to offer the Simple Servings concept at our Bruff Commons resident dining hall. Simple Servings is a resident dining option that provides safe and appetizing food choices for customers with food allergies, gluten intolerance, or other special dietary needs. The Simple Servings station offers simply prepared foods made without the FDA most common allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, wheat, soy, milk products and eggs. In addition, all foods are made without gluten. 

Although foods are prepared in a facility that uses these ingredients, we take great measures to protect against the possibility of cross-contact. Separate equipment, utensils, storage areas, and preparation areas minimize this risk, offering customers a safe and healthy dining option. 

My Zone

My Zone is a self-serve station in Bruff Commons where you will find gluten-and-nut-free products and appliances. The My Zone counter, microwave, waffle iron and refrigerator are all gluten and nut-free.

If your food allergy is not in the FDA’s Top 8, you may need a specially prepared meal to ensure you are safe. To start the process for determining how Dining Services can meet your medically restrictive dietary needs, contact the Campus Dietitian or Executive Chef.

Kosher Option

The Kosher meal plan allows the student to dine at Rimon with 15 meals each week and $400 Wavebuck$ to use on campus. The student may purchase additional Wavebuck$ in $100 increments and NOLAbuck$ in $25 increments. Tulane Dining is excited to welcome restaurateur Chef Dan Esses — known for his New Orleans restaurant Three Muses — to the Tulane Hillel dining room. The food produced at Rimon will build on the seasonal, farm-to-table, and healthy unique kosher fare that has been served at Tulane Hillel’s certified kosher meat kitchen for the past six years. Rimon will offer students wider options in the easy-to-access grab and go in addition to prepared-to-order food to be purchased with Wavebuck$ and on the Kosher meal plan.

Hours of Operation

Monday – Thursday: 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.   
Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.    
Saturday - Sunday: Closed 


Shabbat and Jewish Holiday Meals

Tulane Hillel hosts Shabbat services and dinner most weeks during the fall and spring semester at no charge to students. Religious services begin at 7:00 p.m. and dinner commences at 7:30 p.m. Hillel is happy to provide meals for students during the Jewish holidays, including Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Passover Seders.
