Who's required to buy a meal plan?

A student's academic standing is not a consideration for the meal plan requirement. No exceptions are granted to the mandatory student board requirement.

Meal plan requirement for Class of 2022 cohort (students enrolled as a freshman during the 2018-2019 academic year:

  • All undergraduate students who live in university residence halls (including Aron Residence) are required to enroll in either Unlimited, TU 15 or Kosher meal plan.
  • All undergraduate students who live off campus are required to carry, at minimum, the Commuter Plan.
  • Second-semester first-year who rush a recognized fraternity with a university approved meal plan may elect to change to a Greek plan within the given time frame of meal plan changes.

Meal plan requirements for Class of 2021, 2020, & 2019 cohorts (students enrolled as a second-, third-, or fourth-year students during the 2018-2019 academic year):

  • All second-year students who live on-campus are required to enroll in either Unlimited, TU 15, TU 10, TU 7 or Kosher meal plan.
  • All second-year students who live off campus are required to carry, at minimum, the Commuter Plan.
  • All on-campus second-year students who are a member of a University-recognized fraternity with an approved meal plan must enroll in an Unlimited, TU 15, TU 10, TU 7 or Kosher or Greek Plan. (Including those students who are a second-year living in the Fraternity House).

Whether you are a vegetarian, vegan, observe kosher dietary laws, or have other dietary requirements, Tulane University Dining Services can help make sure you always have something to eat. If you require special assistance, please stop by the Campus Service office LBC, suite 107, and we will be happy to coordinate a meeting with the Bruff Commons management team and the Student Health Center to support your dietary needs.

Bruff Commons now offers Simple Servings which offers simply prepared foods made without the FDA most common allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, wheat, soy, milk products, and eggs. In addition, all foods are made without gluten. To learn more, click here. 

What are Wavebuck$ and how do I use them?

Wavebuck$ are on-campus retail dollars built into the various meal plans. For example, if you purchase the Unlimited meal plan, your Splash Card is credited with $250 in Wavebuck$ per semester to spend at any Tulane University Dining Services retail location, such as the LBC Food Court, the Drawing Board Café, Le Gourmet, City Diner, PJ’s Coffee & Tea and our food trucks. When purchasing a meal plan, Wavebuck$ can be added in increments of $100 up to $1,000. Each additional $100 raises the base price of the plan by $100. More Wavebuck$ may also be purchased throughout the semester in $100 increments.

What are NOLAbuck$ and how do I use them?

NOLAbuck$ are retail dollars built into meal plans. For example, if you purchase the Unlimited meal plan, your Splash Card is credited $25 in NOLAbuck$ that you are able to use at specified retail locations around New Orleans. When purchasing a meal plan, NOLAbuck$ can be added in increments of $25 up to $500. Each additional $25 raises the base price of the plan by $25. More NOLAbuck$ may be purchased throughout the semester in $100 increments.

What is the Commuter Meal Plan?

The Commuter meal plan is tailored to students who live off-campus. The Commuter meal plan has $600 in Wavebuck$ that are retail dollars the student is able to use on campus, as well as $25 in NOLAbuck$ which the student can use at specified off-campus locations. Students are able to add Wavebuck$ in $100 increments and NOLAbuck$ in $25 increments throughout the semester. The student is not required to add Extra Meals or Quick Picks, but if they choose to do so, the minimum is 10 meals. This plan is not available to on-campus students (including those living in Aron Residences). The student also receives a $2 discount off the door price at Bruff Commons Dining Room.


What do I do if I run out of Wavebuck$ or NOLAbuck$?

Students may add buck$ in $100 increments by visiting the Dining Services website at mealplan.tulane.edu or in 107 LBC, Campus Service office. No cash is necessary as the additional buck$ will be charged to the student’s accounts receivable bill.

Do Wavebuck$ and NOLAbuck$ roll over from fall to spring?

Wavebuck$ and NOLAbuck$ roll over from fall to spring if a meal plan is purchased for the spring semester. If you choose not to purchase a plan in the spring, all Wavebuck$ and NOLAbuck$ will expire at the end of the fall. All Wavebuck$ and NOLAbuck$ expire at the end of each spring semester.

What are Extra Meals?

Extra Meals are meals that allow you to treat a guest or yourself at Bruff Commons Dining Room, Bruff To Go in City Diner, Bruff To Go in The Drawing Board Café, the Roulez food truck, and the Orleans Room (excludes Rimon).

What are Quick Picks?

Quick Picks are predetermined meal options at select locations in the LBC Food Court, City Diner, Le Gourmet and McAlister Market that allow you to order, swipe, and go!

Do Bruff meals, Extra Meals, and Quick Picks roll over from fall to spring?

Bruff meals, Extra Meals, and Quick Picks associated with meal plans do not roll over from fall to spring.

How often do your menus change?

Within the Bruff Commons Dining Room, menus change on a four-week cycle, as well as seasonally, to make the most of our local produce and seafood. At our retail locations, menus are very consistent with branded concepts, such as Al Fuego, Freshëns Fresh Food Studio, Panera Bread, Pickles, Southern AFC Sushi, Star Ginger, Wall of Greens, WOW Café & Wingery, and Zatarain’s.

What should I do if I lose my Splash Card (Tulane ID) or if it isn’t working?

If you lose your Splash Card, immediately deactivate it by going to gibson.tulane.edu, selecting card services, and clicking the “deactivate” button. A replacement for lost or damaged cards is available at Campus Service for a fee. You cannot enter the Bruff Commons Dining Room without your Splash Card. If the problem with your card only occurs with meal plan usage, contact Campus Services at (504) 865-5441 or visit us at 107 LBC.

How many times can I eat if I am on the Unlimited meal plan?

The Unlimited meal plans allow unlimited access to the Bruff Commons Dining Room (with the exception of a 2 hours window if Bruff To Go option is utilized).

What is the most popular meal plan option?

The most popular meal plan is the Unlimited meal plan. This option offers the most flexibility with unlimited access to Bruff Commons Dining Room a well as Wavebuck$ and NOLAbuck$ to dine outside the Dining Room at retail locations on and off campus.
